It’s important to practice good oral hygiene. The health of your mouth is linked to the health of your body and keeping both in good shape is essential. If you don’t take care of your oral health, you put yourself at risk for many dental problems and health issues.

  • Brush your teeth at least twice a day
  • Visit your dentist every six months, or as recommended. Be sure you are going regularly, not just when you have pain
  • If you’re a smoker, quit. Smoking can put your mouth at risk for oral cancer and infection.

Be aware of what healthy gums should look like:

  • Pink in color
  • Gum line hugs teeth tightly
  • Your gums do not bleed when you brush

Your gums need rest, air and stimulation by your tongue.

Ideally, your dentures should be cleaned after every meal. If this is impractical, clean them as soon after eating as possible.

Always clean your dentures over a basin of water or a damp towel to avoid breakage if you drop them. Hold them gently between thumb and fingers; never squeeze them in your palm. You should use a denture brush and a good denture cleaner which you can buy at any drugstore. Avoid gritty pastes or powders and use only lukewarm water, never hot.

At night time it is a good time to have your dentures soaking in a good denture cleaning solutions.

Smiling is very contagious! Pass it on!
